How do I choose the best mattress for my body?

How do I choose the best mattress for my body?

It is important to take some time to think about what type of sleeper you are and what, if any, sleeping issues you encounter regularly. All of us have nights where we toss and turn or don’t really get a quality sleep experience but if you have issues more than once a week, it is something to keep in mind when shopping for a mattress. If you sleep hot, or sleep cold, do you have back pain, do you mostly sleep on your side or your back, do you not like mattresses that you feel you can slide off the edge - all are things to think about. After that, the below steps should be a good guide:

  1. Understand your budget -Don't think you need to spend thousands to get a great mattress but also don't look at beds less than $500 (QUEEN SIZE) if you are interested in quality sleep long-term.
  2. Look for brands - Mattresses that don’t trumpet branded content should cause the shopper to be cautious. It doesn’t matter if you have heard of the brand before, but if you can’t find anything online about the brand, it is not a good sign.
  3. Try the .com space - There are a ton of great mattresses online, including Sheer Sleep. Online mattress brands usually have discounted pricing from traditional retail and also risk having bad reviews if their product isn’t sound so most brands are confident, they provide a good sleep experience.
  4. Learn the mattress basics - Don’t try and become an expert in sleep technology but knowing the difference between a foam mattress, a hybrid mattress, or a traditional inner-spring mattress, is important in the shopping experience.
  5. Avoid the Snowflake! - The “cooling” touch and feel of a mattress has become grossly popular as of late and many brands advertise snowflake icons. It is more important to find brands that advertise Body Temperature Regulation instead. While the body needs to drop a few degrees to achieve REM sleep, it can only do this through the release of existing body temperature. Cold to the touch doesn’t necessarily mean it provides good air-flow.
  6. Embrace the Sleep Trialmost all brands provide a window of time for you to experience their mattress ranging from 100 days up to sometimes a year. While your body only really needs about 2 weeks to fully adjust to a new sleep environment, embrace the experience of trying a new mattress and to get a better night sleep. You might have to go through a few different trials with different brands and the messy returns process but ultimately, you are searching for your best night’s rest, look at it as a journey vs a frustrating process.
